Most travelers arrive at the trail in New Paltz. New Paltz is located about 90 miles north of New York City and about the same distance south of Albany. The easiest way to get to New Paltz is the New York State Thruway to Exit 18. Upon exiting the Thruway, turn left on Route 299 (Main Street) and proceed through the Village until intersecting the rail trail just before the bridge crossing the Wallkill River.
